Even the brigade members are acting strange – Mikuru doesn’t know who Kyon is, Itsuki is also missing and Yuki is part of a completely different club altogether. The SOS brigade is in crisis and only Kyon can put the pieces back together to rescue everyone.

A “hikikomori” means “a person with acute social withdrawal”. That would sum up Satou Tatsushiro who, as a conspiracy theorist, firmly believes there is a reason why shut-ins like Satou exist. Due to this, he creates a theory involving a group called the NHK – an organisation who intends the fill the world with hikikomori. Satou wishes to break free of the NHK, but cannot as he is too scared to leave his apartment. That is, until he meets Misaki, a girl who (as part of a personal “project”) claims she will cure him of his anti-social ways.

On one hot summer day in 1983,Maebara Keiichi transfers to a peaceful rural village in Hinamizawa. There, he befriends his classmates Rena, Mion, Rika, and Satoko. However just as Keiichi was beginning to be assimilated in simple rural life, he stumbles upon Hinamizawa’s dark history. As Keiichi dives deeper into the mystery, he finds that his new found friends may not be exactly what they claim themselves to be.
